History Book Recommendation Thread

    Ask for and give history book recommendations here.

    Currently I'm reading The Oxford Illustrated History of Britain. Interesting, a bit out of date, Anglocentric, and doesn't cover the Empire to the extent I think it should. For a good overview of English history, though, it's quite good.
