As the tin says. To give you an idea of the period, Truman had just had a diasasterous term, and the republicans chose Former Governor and Soldier Harold Strassen over former candidate Thomas Dewey. When it came election night, everyone could already tell Strassen would win, and when the final results finally came in Strassen won 367 electorals while Truman had only gotten 124, a small third party called the dixiecrats had won the remaining 40.

So, do you think there is anyway Strassen could lose? Is there any way Truman could have at least softened the blow?
